Jamboree Game vs Holy Family
Traveling out to St. Denis for a late afternoon game, the 5th / 6th grade team came to play, taking a 22 point lead into the 4th quarter. The jamboree game gave us a chance to give our young team reps on offense and defense.
For parents with 6th grade players from last year, Holy Family is a single A team. This week we'll be playing St. Martha which is a perennial AA or AAA team and would be similar to St. Mary's or Holy Spirit from last year.
A few take aways after reviewing the film (thanks to Bill Fust!)... on defense, we did a great job of attacking the line of scrimmage, keeping them to very few yards of rushing between the tackles anddefensive ends did a great job of containing the running backs. As you saw on their two touchdowns, we need to work on our pursuit and tackling through the ball carrier (vs. grabbing the jersey). Even with the two scores, we were a B+.
Special Teams... especially kick off, we did a great job too. Bryce Perram's "ugly" kicks (by the way, we want those) gave us great field position and the ability to pick up a turnover! A+
On offense we had mixed results... very good at times and we need work some other times. Offense is the toughest part of the game... usually people who block would rather play defense! Up front, the offensive line did very well against their defensive line... need to work on the 2nd level (blocking linebackers). The running backs ran hard, but at times, was hard to get the hole... we need the blocking running backs to clear the path. B
Next up is St. Martha after the Labor Day break... they are perennial CSAA team. We need to come to play again!!
